UD Nanofabrication Facility

The MGF community includes a full-time epitaxy engineer, 6 faculty/PIs, 6 support staff, and 12 expert-users. MGF researchers represent 5 different colleges and study a diverse range of materials, including metal/semiconductor nanocomposites, topological insulators, dilute bismuthides, hyperbolic metamaterials, magnetic tunnel junction heterostructures, heavy metal/ferromagnetic metal ultrafast spintronics, and quantum dot arrays.

Joshua is the director of the MGF and oversees all aspects of MGF operations in collaboration with the Lead Epitaxy Engineer. He is Professor and Chair of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Delaware (UD). He received his B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University and his PhD in Materials at the University of California, Santa Barbara before joining the University of Delaware in 2007.

Jeongho is the lead epitaxy engineer and is responsible for managing all aspects of the MGF, conducting maintenance and calibrations of the materials growth systems and accessory equipment, developing recipes and techniques for research applications, and growing samples for external users. He works closely with academic and industrial users to enable their research, providing expert guidance to existing and prospective users, and overseeing all training. Prior to joining MGF, he was a Principal Research Engineer at the University of Illinois (Urbana Champaign), where he ran an MOCVD lab. Prior to that, he had worked at Air Force Research Lab. AT AFRL, he studied the epitaxial growth of 2D materials by MBE for approximately a decade. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the department of electrical engineering at Ohio State University. He earned his PhD at University of Cincinnati doing MBE growth of rare-earth doped GaN materials.

Crystal is the first point of contact to assist users with facility access to DIMR. She is primarily responsible for purchasing, monitoring accounts payable, and other administrative functions. Crystal has several years of experience handling financial and administrative transactions in corporate and higher education environments.

Rockel is responsible for all of DIMR’s financial and human resources functions and oversees administrative functions. She also coordinates marketing efforts for the labs. Rockel previously worked at John Jay College in New York and has twenty years of financial services experience. She received her B.S. degree from Brooklyn College in Business, Management and Finance and plans to pursue an MBA degree.

Margaret is responsible for the financial preparation, monitoring, and billing tasks for all the DIMR Facilities. Margaret was formerly a Senior Tax Accountant with Exelon and has twenty years of corporate tax accounting experience.
